In Case You Were Wondering with Chloe Wheatland

reliquia jewellery with chloe wheatland vegan in gold earrings and ring

Dialling in Chloe Wheatland – plant-based content creator, model and recipe developer from Melbourne. There are many reasons we obsess over Chloe, from her impeccable style to her obsession with gold jewellery and her insanely delicious recipes (and cute instructive vids to boot). She gives us a taste of both in our quick-fire interview. Snacks, self-care tips and ~everything~ saved for later.

“I grew up in a cosy regional town just outside of Melbourne and was raised by my beautiful mum who instilled a passion for health, wellness and spirituality in me since I was young. Due to my love for animals and all things health, I decided to ditch animal products when I was 16 and haven’t looked back.

"My two biggest passions are plant-based food and fashion, both of which I try to incorporate throughout my social media. I love showing people how easy, healthy and flavourful vegan cooking can be all whilst doing it styled up in a cute outfit.”

Top 3 words to describe your style:

Chic, classy and cool.

Top 3 outfit-defining features/assets:

I can’t go past an oversized blazer, low-rise jeans and a cropped tee. It’s the perfect three-piece combo that everyone should have in their capsule wardrobe. I love that you can mix and match the tee or jeans colour and style for a whole different look each time!

Top 3 favourite Reliquia Jewellery pieces:

I am a gold girlie. I like it elegant and classy, but with some chunk, so it stands out. My current Reliquia favourites are:

Prairie Earrings

Prairie Ring

Prairie Huggies

Top 3 morning rituals:

My morning routine is very special to me as it determines how productive and energising my day will be.

I always start by journalling where I write three things that I am grateful for, three things I am trying to manifest into my life and a daily affirmation to remind myself of throughout the day.

I then have a nourishing breakfast. Lately, I have been loving a warm bowl of protein oats to beat the chilly Melbourne weather, but I also love a big smoothie bowl topped with fresh fruit, nut butter and granola during the warmer months.

My last morning must-do is some kind of movement, whether that be pilates, a run or simply taking my beautiful chihuahua Inka for a walk.

Top 3 listens/reads/watches:

I am currently reading You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero and am loving it. It’s a self-development book that inspires you to transform your life, however, the way that it is written is humorous and blunt so will have you giggling the whole way through. It’s an easy read that I highly recommend for someone new to the self-development space!

If ever I’m feeling unmotivated or stuck, I love to chuck on an episode of The Mindset Mentor podcast. He has hundreds of episodes that combine neurology, psychology, early childhood development, cognitive behavioural therapy and spirituality so you are bound to find something inspiring or interesting. His episodes are also only 15 to 30 minutes long, so it’s perfect to listen to on a quick walk or when doing housework for a boost of motivation.

My guilty pleasure is horror, thriller and crime movies and series. Especially when they are true stories. The scarier the better. One series that I loved recently was Black Bird on Apple TV. It’s a crime drama about a man who is instructed by the FBI to get a confession from a criminally insane serial killer to free himself from his own prison sentence.

Top 3 Instagram follows:

@ottolenghi: The man, the myth, the legend. Yotam Ottolenghi is undoubtedly one of my biggest foodie inspirations and one of the first cookbooks I fell in love with. The way he cooks and flavours the simple vegetable is genius. I get excited about his posts as each inspires and pushes me to be more experimental in the kitchen.

@christinasots: I just love everything she cooks. It’s colourful, it’s creative and it all looks damn delicious. Every recipe she posts inspires me! I also appreciate anyone who is obsessed with tahini just as much as I am!

@barbara_ines: Total cool girl vibes!! Her fashion sense is immaculate and she drives my dream of travelling to Europe every time one of her posts pops up.

Top 3 vegan girlie tips:

Experiment, learn and grow: The most exciting and rewarding part of my vegan journey has been discovering all the incredible ways to cook vegetables, grains, fruits and legumes to make delicious meals. I have tried so many new things and have learnt so much about cooking and nutrition. If you are open to trying new foods and flavours, you can have so much fun with them.

Remember your why: Why is it you want to transition to a vegan lifestyle? Writing this down somewhere that you can easily pull out and read at the beginning of your journey is a great way to remind yourself of why you started if ever you are feeling lost or unmotivated. Educating yourself through reading books, listening to podcasts, watching documentaries or reaching out to other vegans is also a great way to reconnect to your values.

Be kind to yourself: As with all change, it can be hard. If veganism is something you want to try, be patient with yourself. Start slow, such as by incorporating one plant-based meal into each day. Strive for progress, not perfection.

Top 3 self-care strategies:

Prioritise sleep: Recently I went through a stage where I wasn’t sleeping. Good lord, did it suck. I was working late into the night with my eyes half open, but as soon as I cosied up in my sheets it was like I had just had a shot of coffee. Eyes wide open and staring at the walls. It wasn’t until that experience that I realised how important having a sleep schedule is and how a lack of sleep can affect all areas of your life, from work to relationships.

The top tips that have saved my sleep cycle are having a shower 90 minutes before bed to bring down my core body temperature, only having lamps on at night time and avoiding blue light, and having my last snack 2 to 3 hours before bed to slow my digestion. Then when in bed, I reserve 20 minutes before trying to sleep. 10 minutes for reading and the other 10 minutes for meditating. Then it’s lights off and time to catch Zzzz’s.

Go outside, especially when the sun is out: It might still be winter in Australia, but the sun has been making some pretty regular appearances each week and you can bet that I have been soaking it all up. The sun has a powerful therapeutic energy that will raise your serotonin levels and give you a boost of Vitamin D, making you feel more centred and whole.

Create a vision board: When I’m flat or need a boost of motivation, I love to refocus my energy by visualising my goals. As I am a visual learner, creating a vision board works best for me as I can physically see all that I want to call in. This involves taking a bunch of images from the internet (I recommend from Pinterest) of all that you wish to manifest and collating it into a collage. I also like to add affirmations and words to mine, but that is totally up to you! Then, the most important step of all, print it off in an A3 size and pin it somewhere you’ll see each day. I currently have one on my bedroom wall and shower screen for double the exposure.

Top 3 sips and snacks:

One of the best coffee concoctions I have ever had was on a retreat in Bali in 2023 and, to this day, I am obsessed. It’s the perfect sip for a hot day and has three simple ingredients: 1 shot of espresso, 1 scoop of vanilla protein and 1 cup of chilled coconut water (I recommend Coco Coast). Blend it up and sip away.

I love dips, so much so that one day I want to release a cookbook purely on dips and sauces. Hummus is my all-time favourite. I meal prep it weekly so I can enjoy it with crackers for a mid-day snack.

You can’t beat the humble date, peanut butter and chocolate combo. It’s quick, it’s easy and it’s a healthier way to satisfy the sweet tooth.

Top 3 tunes to lift the mood:

Dancing in the Moonlight: It’s a feel-good classic. Even the iconic jingle within the first three seconds of the song is enough to have you smiling. It’s my go-to song whenever my mood is low and I need a reminder of all the reasons I have to smile.

Mum always had an Elton John track playing in the car on the way to primary school as a child. I loved the song Philadelphia Freedom and would always request it. The beat is just so uplifting, exciting and now, totally nostalgic.

TikTok has introduced me to Tommy Richman and suddenly I am a Tommy Richman fan. There is something in the beat of his songs Million Dollar Baby and Devil is a Lie that is addictive.

Top 3 not-so-guilty pleasures:

I am obsessed with açai bowls, particularly ones smothered in peanut butter. For anyone looking for the best açai in Melbourne, I highly recommend Lovabowl. The texture of their açai, creamy home-made peanut butter and perfectly crunchy granola is unmatched.

Nothing beats a hot and creamy cacao on a cold winter morning. I love blending ceremonial-grade cacao with hot soy milk. Not only is the flavour much deeper and complex but it’s packed with antioxidants and minerals such as magnesium, calcium and iron.

Ok, so I’m a sucker for a good reality TV series. I know, I know, it isn’t inspirational or educational. But sometimes, especially when it’s that time of the month, I just need something to binge that doesn’t require conscious thought. My current favourite is Vanderpump Rules.

Chloe wears: Prairie Earrings, Prairie Huggies, Prairie Ring.
